Ruth Singer is a textile designer-maker specialising in hand-embellished accessories and clothing, which are all made by hand in her Leicester studio from organic, sustainable, vintage or recycled fabrics.
Please explore this site to find out more about what we can do for your wedding. On the right you will find links to all the different products we make. If you have any queries, please just email info@ruthsinger.com or phone 07740 345 062
We make one-off accessories to order using your own fabrics (such as wedding dress leftovers) or carefully-selected vintage fabrics from our extensive collection or the finest organic cottons and silks from specialist suppliers. We can make most accessories including bags and purses for bride and bridesmaids, stoles, shawls and scarves, quirky and original collars, neckpieces and fabric boas if you want to stand out from the crowd. We also make fabric flowers for bouquets, table centres and corsages as well as other textile jewellery such as cuffs, hair decorations and hat-trimmings. We can even make one-off garters and veils.
Ruth also designs and makes non-traditional bespoke wedding dresses and other clothes using sustainable fabrics and designs inspired by historical costume.
Ruth can also transform an existing second-hand or vintage dress into something completely unique by restyling it to suit a modern look as well as customising and embellishing a plain dress with applique, embroidery, fabric flowers, pleating, ruffles or frills.
Ruth is happy to incorporate your treasured fabrics or heirloom pieces where possible, such as a family wedding dress, lace or christening gowns.
Small decorative items are also available including ring pillows, cushions and wedding album covers as well as large scale pieces for customising interiors including hangings and tablecloths.

Pinkerton boa
Wear this light-as-a-feather boa / necklace over a simple dress for an easy but dramatic style. The boa is long and floaty, made with 14 blossoms on a single thread. Each blossom is made from recycled fabrics including some old wedding dresses plus some organic fabrics.
We can make the boa shorter if you prefer, with bigger blossoms (see dark blue sample below) and in a wide range of fabulous colours to match or contrast with your wedding colours.
The basic boa is about 1.5m long and has 14 blossoms. It costs £60. Variations are made to order and will be priced according to complexity - with the fancy triple blossom version being around £200.
Corsages
Organic silks and vintage fabrics
We make corsages from recycled and vintage fabrics in several different styles. Some are kept in stock but most are made to order. Please browse the images here and contact us to discuss a bespoke design.
Corsages are supplied with a safety pin back, but can be converted to use as hair decorations, wrist corsages (on ribbon) or hat trimmings.
We can also make fabric flowers into everlasting and thoroughly ethical wedding bouquets.
Recycled leather and vintage buttons

Cuffs
Wrist cuffs are available in a range of colours including cream / white made from recycled wedding dresses, organic silk and vintage lace. Silk-free cuffs are also available, made from recycled or vintage fabrics and organic cotton. £25 each or £45 for a matching pair. Matching scarves also available.
I can also make cuffs to match your wedding accent colour or use fabric scraps left from the making of your own dress.
Neckpiece
This stunning and dramatic silk organza neckpiece is now available in organic silk!
The neckpiece looks more solid than it really is: it is soft and easy to wear and certainly makes a dramatic statement. It just pulls over the head and rests on the collarbones. It is about 25cm diameter.
Organic silk neckpiece in white only made to order £75
Non-organic neckpieces still available in white, ivory, red and black. REDUCED to £50. Buy online via Etsy for $95 (sent from me in the UK, but via an American website).

Clothes
We make non-traditional wedding clothes, mostly based on historic dress.
Our real specialism is customising and adapting vintage or second-hand garments, turning them into something really unique by restyling to suit a modern look as well as customising and embellishing a plain dress or other garment with applique, embroidery, fabric flowers, pleating, ruffles or frills.
We can even embellish boring menswear if you are a groom with a taste for something dapper.

Handbags
We make evening bags to order in a range of styles to suit your own wedding and in fabrics of your choice including organic cotton, peace silk, organic silk, vintage and recycled fabrics, plus hand knitted bags in British wool, organic wool / alpaca (in a range of naturally-dyed colours) and organic cotton.
Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Amelia Brooch
The Amelia brooch is tactile, soft and 100% recycled!
The flower brooch is made from recycled knitwear - usually lambswool but sometimes cashmere or angora blends. It fastens with a small safety pin. Brooches are around 7-8cm diameter.
As these brooches are made from recycled fabrics, there is limited availability of colours. Please contact us to check what colours are in stock and what can be made to order. £18 each.
Mantua Frill scarf
The Mantua Frill scarf is named after 18th century gowns which were often decorated with frills and ruffles. The scarf is long, wide and very voluptous! It is made from fabrics cut on the bias, or diagonal of the cloth which makes the fabric drape and ruffle beautifully, and the raw edges wont fray.
Depending on the stiffness of the fabrics used, the scarf will either drape and hang in soft folds, or stand up and frame the face. Fabrics used include vintage and recycled silks and other fabrics, organic silk and organic cotton. As with most products, we can make a scarf from your own choice of fabric to match other items or use a piece of precious vintage fabric of your own (although a large piece of fabric is required - there is a lot of cloth in these!).
The scarves can be made in a range of lengths from mini, about 1m long to maxi, about 2m long. The prices range from £100-£200. Limited stock held, please contact us if you wish to order a bespoke scarf.

Wedding Album covers
A special gift for a couple - an album covered with hand-embellished fabric. Album covers are made to order - you supply the album and we make the cover. We can use pieces of your wedding dress fabric or fabrics to suit you from our vast store of vintage, recycled and organic cloth. For other design ideas, please visit my main website and look at the bespoke fabrics I make to order. A sample is shown below - this is a wall panel but could also be made into a book cover.
Jewellery
Occasionally we make one-off commissions such as this braided gold bracelet and necklace set. They are made from silk thread which is wrapped in real gold and then woven into small braids. The braids are grouped together and fastened with a bead or gold-plated fastener.
